General purpose Appliance
Als Appliance wird ein Ansatz zum Design für Computer-Hardware bezeichnet, welcher nur einem einzigen oder wenigen Zwecken dient.
Der Zweck einer Appliance ist in der Regel durch die Hardware vorgegeben

Im Jahr 2009 hab ich das iphoneblog.de auf einen neuen Server mit Xen umgezogen und dazu im Anschluss einen länglichen Artikel mit Tuning und allgemeinen Xen Informationen verfasst. Inzwischen ist Kollege Olma zwar nicht mehr bei serverloft aber ich halte die Informationen dennoch größtenteils für Relevant. Daher hier mal eine Kopie meiner Arbeit von damals.

Native IPv6 bei Hetzner mit Xen. In der Praxis.
Seit einiger Zeit bietet die Hetzner AG für ihre Kunden native IPv6 an.
In der Praxis hatte ich beim einrichten einige Hürden zu nehmen. Die Architekur auf den von mir betreuten Servern verwendet Xen mit einem Bridge Setup.Alle Xen-Domains (Webserver, mySQL, Toolserver, Spielwiese,…) hängen standardmäßig erst mal an einer LAN Bridge. Die Systeme können über NAT das Internet erreichen....

Apache Bytecounter script (perl)
The following script monitors an apache access logfile, extracts the transferred bytes and offers the current counter as a TCP Server.
It’s no big deal. But is a good example of using IO::Socket and threads in Perl. It’s not a good example of how to work with integers ;-)
I used it on a shared webhost account with shell access (Dreamhost) as input source for cacti.

Ich hatte heute für 40 Minuten einen Palm Pré zum rumspielen. Was ich mag:
webOS ist gut. Taskmanager z.B. ist genial gelöst.
Display. Sehr sehr gut. Es scheint näher an der Scheibe zu sein. In jedem Fall macht es subjektiv einen sehr guten Eindruck. Auch wenn es kleiner als das Display des iPhones ist, ich bevorzuge es.
